The ASLRRA convention is the railroad industry’s premier networking and education event providing exceptional education for railroad professionals. It is also an excellent opportunity to showcase our products and services to the short line industry. A&K was one of more than 150 companies displaying their goods and services in the conventions largest ever exhibit hall. This is the only exhibition in America geared to the short line and regional railroad industry. Most of A&K’s sales personnel attended and took a turn working the exhibit booth to promote A&K to more than 1500 rail industry representatives at the convention.

For those of you who regularly use Dynamics AX, you know how annoying the Infolog can become when it is not providing necessary information. Here’s how you can change the Infolog setting so it only pops up when necessary. Click on the “Microsoft Dynamics AX” name in the upper-left corner of your screen, scroll down to “Tools”, and click on “Options”.
On the right-hand side of the next screen, change the setting for “Infolog” from All to Errors and Warnings.
Located on the Salt Lake server is a safety file. This file was created in 2007 and contains a scan of all the first-aid and reportable accident reports since then. More recently the safety violations and property damage reports have been added to the safety file.
Remember the goals that were set for 2011 are for zero lost-time accidents; 15 or fewer first-aid accidents; and 25 or fewer incidents of damage to vehicles, equipment and machinery.
You are encouraged to check the list often and review the reports. By being aware of the incidents that have occurred, other similar incidents can be avoided. These reports can and should be used as part of your monthly safety meetings.
To access the safety file from your desktop go to: start\\network\\Slc-app-01\Data\Admin\Safety. You will then be able to click on each year and the links to the accident reports. If you have questions or need assistance please contact Cheryl Norton.

The American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Luncheon was held in Salt Lake City on April 29th. Some of the women from A&K’s Corporate Headquarters attended this event which was held to help fight heart disease. The event included a health and wellness expo, educational sessions, health screenings, and more. A silent auction was held which raised over $6,000 to help fund life-saving research. Gail Miller, wife of the late Larry Miller of the Larry H. Miller group of companies was the key note speaker. She talked about the importance of taking care of your body and your health. She is very passionate about this subject as she has learned first-hand how devastating it can be when you do not take care of your health.
This is such an important message that should be shared with everyone. By taking charge of your health, 80% of cardiac events may be prevented by making the right choices involving diet, exercise and abstinence from smoking.

It’s no surprise that our problems are a great source of stress in our lives. But it may have more to do with how we relate to our problems than with the problems themselves. The more we struggle with problems, the worse they seem. But when we accept them as inevitable, view them as potential teachers, it’s as if a weight has been lifted.
Think of a problem and ask yourself what valuable lessons it might be able to teach you. Does it have anything to do with patience, forgiveness, etc.? Chances are the problem can be thought of in a softer way that includes a genuine desire to learn from it.
